Light as a finish material

Inside cabinetry, a thin backlit reveal acts like a finish material rather than a light fixture. Three or four narrow vertical reveals along a closet's back wall provide both ambient glow and a designed focal point. The lit surface itself is the design.

Coordinating with millworkers

Bring your millworker into the conversation early. The cabinet's internal substrate needs to accept the panel's flush flange, and the low-voltage wiring path must be planned with the cabinet's joinery. Done up front, this is a 30-minute decision; done late, it becomes rework.

Switching and scenes

Closet inserts pair well with motion-triggered scenes, where light comes up softly as the door opens and dims after a delay. The same panels can be tied into a primary suite scene that brings the closet, dressing area, and bath up together. Either approach keeps the space quiet until it's used and theatrical when it is.

Frequently Asked

Questions on this topic.

How do I keep the closet from feeling like a retail display?
Restraint. Two or three reveals concentrated on one wall reads as architecture; ten reveals everywhere reads as merchandising.
Will the LED generate noticeable heat in a closed cabinet?
No. The 12V LED system runs cool enough for closed millwork applications and is UL-certified for the use case.
Can the panels be specified before millwork is built?
Yes, and they should be. Locking in panel dimensions early lets the millworker design the cabinet around the insert.
